Mt. Dew Game Brainstorming

Agenda: Help people to learn the different flavors of Mountain Dew
Flavors--some are cars, some are power-ups (balance, every good power-up needs a counter)
  • Livewire-grapple post (speed must be enough, correct timing), grapple post
  • Original-slick looking car, cart, modern day super-car
  • Lode Red-military vehicle
  • White out - snow covers most of screen, flashbang
  • Voltage-kill player’s engine, slows them down
  • Throw back--50’s style car, banana or oil slick type item
  • Baja-off-road environment, off-road vehicle
  • Thin Ice Freeze - power-up that allows player to take a water short cut, glide over bumpy areas
  • Cherry fusion-cherry bomb
  • Distortion - reverses finish line, or swap steering direction (less confusing vote)
  • Typhoon-glides, spinouts, tornado launch (flips enemy players around)
  • Flare-aimed missile
  • Crave-homing missile, steal someone else’s item
  • Blue shock freeze - shield
  • Supernova - ultimate power-up (blue-shell), bullet, disappear and reappear in first place, certain distance jump, bright out other screens, teleporter
  • Diet - makes player lighter, squishes player and allows player to get through thin alley way (guaranteed, or conditional)
  • Blue shock (expendable power-up), ball of energy on track, random item
  • Ability to collect multiple items and choose from them
    • Chain items
    • Have max number of items that can be held at the same time.
    • Buttons dedicated to power-ups
  • Battle Racing
  • 3D
  • Pick-ups/Power-ups
    • Environment
      • Caffeine boost (with Mountain Dew logo on track). Temporarily speeds up car
    • Random
      • Probabilities of getting good items increases when player is far behind
  • Drafting
  • Cartoon or realistic art
  • Weapon shapes:
    • Soda bottle
    • Bottle caps
    • lightning bolts
    • fire balls colored with drink
  • Some flavor is a fuel. You have to collect enough fuel to make it to a checkpoint, possibly lowers speed, stop for 2 seconds, etc.
  • Driver - modeled person, or car is character. More people vote for car is character
  • Car’s that correspond to power-ups
  • Unlock power-ups as you get better
  • Starter cars, unlock better cars
  • Everyone starts with a defense item
  • Persistent state-Save best times on laps, achievements to unlock new cars, winning races unlocks new cars, unlock power-ups
  • Server/LAN/website based
  • Level-design
